The Delta State Government has suspended the Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Hon. Izeze Rume Yakubu Reuben, indefinitely over allegations linking him to the recent assault on a senior government aide.
The suspension takes immediate effect and will remain in place to allow security agencies to conduct an impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Kingsley Emu, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, saying the allegations against the commissioner were linked to the recent assault on the Senior Special Assistant on Protocol, Mr. Simon Mudi, also known as “Temple,” at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun.
Emu said the decision was taken to enable the security agencies to carry out an unbiased investigation into the matter.
He said the state government remained committed to maintaining public safety, law and order, as well as protecting the sanctity of human lives in all circumstances.
According to him, the government’s commitment to these principles remained firm even when institutions or officials of the state were involved.
The government said the suspension was without prejudice to the outcome of the investigation, while the relevant security agencies are expected to establish the facts surrounding the incident.
