The Cross River State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the death of a 29-year-old Bolt driver, Emmanuel Effiong Ita, whose body was found inside his Honda City vehicle in Calabar.
Ita, a resident of Ikot Effanga Mkpa, was found dead along the Target–Udy King axis of Calabar on 28 August 2026.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Eitokpah, confirmed the incident in a statement made available to journalists on Friday in Calabar.
According to the statement, police personnel were deployed to the scene after receiving information about the incident, but the deceased’s family had already taken his remains to the General Hospital Mortuary.
The police said a preliminary examination at the mortuary revealed an injury on his chest.
The command said the vehicle had been recovered and relevant evidence preserved for forensic and investigative examination to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.
“The Command has commenced a preliminary investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding his death. His vehicle has been recovered, while relevant evidence is being preserved for further forensic and investigative examination,” Eitokpah stated.
He added that the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for “discreet and comprehensive investigation.”
The command urged the public to avoid speculation and the circulation of unverified information, adding that any significant development would be made public.
“The Command remains committed to uncovering the facts and ensuring that anyone found responsible is brought to justice,” Eitokpah said.
