THE BEDC Electricity Plc has confirmed that one of its technical staff members sustained injuries following an electrical incident while carrying out maintenance work on an 11kV feeder in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti.
A statement by its Head of Branding and Corporate Communications, Mrs Evelyn Gbiwen, on Tuesday in Benin, said the incident occurred at about 6:20 p.m. on Saturday in the Ado-Poly Satellite Campus area of Ado-Ekiti.
In the statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Benin, she identified the injured employee as Mr Akinyemi Bamidele, a technical linesman.
According to her, Bamidele sustained burns to his arm and other parts of his body after receiving an electric shock while carrying out an operational task on the 11kV Basiri Feeder following scheduled maintenance work.
She noted that the employee was immediately taken to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti, where he was receiving treatment.
She added that Bamidele was in a stable condition and responding well to medical care.
“BEDC Electricity Plc remains committed to the safety and well-being of its employees and is providing the necessary support to the injured staff member during this period,” she said.
She said the company had commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to her, appropriate measures would be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.(NAN)
