Arsenal are close to agreeing a €10m (£8.6m) permanent transfer of midfielder Fabio Vieira to Bundesliga side Hamburg, with negotiations at an advanced stage ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
Vieira, 26, is expected to leave Arsenal permanently after spending last season on loan at Hamburg, where he scored seven goals in 29 league appearances. The move would end his four-year spell with the Gunners after he fell out of Mikel Arteta’s regular plans.
Hamburg are keen to complete the deal before Tuesday’s deadline, while Arsenal are increasingly confident an agreement will be reached.
The Portuguese midfielder joined Arsenal from Porto in 2022 for an initial £34m transfer fee.
However, Vieira struggled to secure regular playing time at the Emirates Stadium.
He made 47 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions, starting only five Premier League matches.
His latest loan spell at Hamburg was his second temporary move away from the London club.
Vieira had previously returned to Porto on loan during the 2024-25 campaign.
His performances in Germany, including seven league goals last season, have now helped pave the way for Hamburg to secure his permanent transfer.
Arsenal have been working to offload the midfielder permanently as he is no longer considered a key part of Arteta’s first-team plans.
The proposed €10m deal would bring an end to Vieira’s Arsenal career, subject to the completion of negotiations and formalities.
