The Nigerian Army has arrested two terrorist informants during an intelligence-led operation aimed at disrupting insurgents’ support network in Borno.
The suspects were apprehended after troops acted on credible intelligence and surveillance linking them to alleged information-sharing activities with terrorist elements operating across the North-East.
It was gathered on Monday that the operation took place at Askira Uba Market in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State at about 3:10 p.m. on Saturday, when troops of the 115 Task Force Battalion carried out the intelligence-led raid.
According to a security source familiar with the arrest, preliminary findings suggested the two suspects had been passing sensitive information to terrorist groups, helping them monitor security activities and movements within the region.
“The suspects are believed to have been providing information to terrorist elements operating within the region,” the security source said.
Following their arrest, the suspects were transferred to the Headquarters of the 28 Task Force Brigade for further investigation and other necessary actions.
The source said the probe would determine the extent of their alleged involvement and identify possible accomplices.
According to the source, the operation reflects the Armed Forces’ sustained campaign against terrorist support networks, stressing that identifying informants and collaborators remains critical to degrading insurgent capabilities.
“This arrest is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist support structures by identifying and apprehending individuals suspected of aiding insurgent operations,” the source added.
