A 33-year-old farmer, Danjuma Luka, is in military custody following the alleged killing of a Fulani herder during an altercation in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
According to a military source, The incident occurred at about 6:10 p.m. yesterday in Ninzo South Ward.
Troops of Sector 7, Sub-Sector 71, under Operation Enduring Peace, were deployed to the area after receiving a distress call over the confrontation.
Upon arriving at the scene, the troops arrested Luka, who was identified as the alleged assailant.
The source said the circumstances surrounding the altercation and the death of the herder were still being investigated.
He added that Luka would be handed over to the police for further investigation and necessary action after the military completes its preliminary inquiries.
Meanwhile, troops have remained in the area to maintain calm and prevent any possible reprisal attacks between farming and herding communities.
The source said the military intervention was aimed at containing the situation and preventing the incident from escalating into wider communal tension.
He added that the continued presence of troops would help protect residents and forestall possible reprisals as investigations continue.
