THE Anambra Government is set to introduce marine tourism as part of efforts to harness the state’s waterways, diversify its tourism offerings and create new economic opportunities.
The Commissioner, Ministry of Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, Mr Udoji Amedu, disclosed this in a statement, made available to journalists in Awka on Tuesday.
Amedu said that the ministry had taken time to officially visit a river site in Obosi community, Idemili North Local Government Area (LGA) of Anambra.
According to him, the site forms part of the Idemili River, a tributary of the River Niger.
He said that the visit was aimed at exploring the tourism potential of the area and identifying opportunities for developing water-based tourism experiences across the state.
’’Anambra is blessed with natural and cultural tourism assets that can be developed to attract visitors, create recreational opportunities and generate economic activities for host communities.
‘’Developing marine tourism can open opportunities for boat cruises, waterfront recreation and other tourism experiences, while showcasing the beauty of the state’s riverine environment, ‘’ he said.
The commissioner also disclosed that the ministry planned to visit Anam Sand Beach and Otutu Nzu locations of the state, as part of the ministry’s initiative.
According to him, both locations are a confluence of the Anambra and Ezu rivers, to further assess their potential for tourism development.
He explained that the initiative aligned with the vision of the state Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo.
Amedu said the aim was to unlock the state’s tourism potential and position Anambra as an attractive destination for tourism, leisure and investment.
He assured that the ministry would continue to promote Anambra’s natural attractions to benefit host communities and grow the state’s tourism economy. (NAN)
