Agent arraigned for allegedly stealing rent proceeds

THE police on Tuesday, charged a 37-year-old agent, Omotola Adebanjo before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, for allegedly stealing rent proceeds of his employer.

Adebanjo is standing trial on charges bordering on cheating and stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, ASP Femi Omilana alleged that the defendant committed the offences between March and April, at Apata, Ibadan.

He alleged that the defendant, a house agent employed by one Mr Olasupo Apata, was entrusted with responsibility of collecting and remitting the sum of N6.02 million realised from rent, to his employer.

The prosecutor alleged that the defendant fraudulently remitted only the sum of N3.5 million and retained the balance for his personal use without knowledge of his employer.

The offences contravene the provisions of sections 390(9) and 421 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Mrs Adebola Adeola granted the defendant bail in the sum of two million naira with two sureties in like sum.

Among other terms, the court held that one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the defendant.

The court adjourned the case until Oct.22, for hearing. (NAN)
