Ahead of the 2027 presidential election, a former federal lawmaker, Tokunbo Afikuyomi, has been appointed Chairman of the Advisory Council of the President Bola Tinubu/Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat Independent Campaign Group (PBAT-KOH ICG), as the All Progressives Congress (APC) seeks to retain the leadership seats in Lagos and the country.
The appointment was ratified at a strategic meeting in Lagos where members of the campaign group reviewed plans and structures ahead of the proposed commencement of its nationwide mobilisation activities for the 2027 poll.
Afikuyomi’s appointment places the former lawmaker at the head of the advisory body expected to provide strategic direction and help coordinate support networks for the campaign organisation for the upcoming election.
The meeting was attended by several political stakeholders, including Senator Wasiu Sanni Eshinlokun, National Director-General of the PBAT-ICG; Dr. Seyi Bamigbade, who represented the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Tajudeen Olusi; and Abdul Hamed Salawu Dullar, Principal Director-General of the PBAT-KOH ICG in Lagos State.
Addressing the meeting, Eshinlokun said the latest strategic arrangement was designed to strengthen the group’s grassroots mobilisation structure ahead of the 2027 election.
He said the organisation would focus on ward-to-ward mobilisation and the deployment of polling-unit canvassers as part of efforts to establish an effective grassroots campaign network.
According to him, the ICG is prepared to deploy its network across the country to mobilise voters in support of President Tinubu and what he described as the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Eshinlokun said the campaign group would work towards building a coordinated grassroots structure capable of reaching voters across the country.
Also speaking, Bamigbade said Afikuyomi’s appointment was in line with the directives and leadership vision of the Board of Trustees Chairman, Prince Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi.
He described the advisory council as an important component of the campaign structure, saying it would provide the strategic foresight required to coordinate the various support groups backing the Tinubu-Hamzat ticket.
Bamigbade said the council would also seek to bring the different support networks under a unified structure to ensure greater coordination ahead of the 2027 election.
The development comes as political groups and support organisations begin preparations for the next general election, with parties and allied groups expected to intensify grassroots mobilisation and voter engagement ahead of the campaign season.
With Afikuyomi now heading the advisory council, the PBAT-KOH ICG is expected to focus on strengthening its organisational structure and expanding its grassroots presence as it prepares to mobilise support for President Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
