THE All Progressives Congress (APC) Integrity Group, says the success of the party’s 2027 presidential campaign will depend on the emergence of a Director-General with broad national appeal.
National Coordinator of the group, Alhaji Ibrahim Mamman, said this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.
Mamman also said that such individual must have proven capacity and unquestionable loyalty to the party, as the task ahead required experience, character, and proven leadership.
He noted that the group had carefully followed the growing discussions and consultations surrounding the appointment of the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He also said the group acknowledged that several distinguished party leaders and loyal stakeholders who had shown interest possessed the requisite credentials to serve in such a strategic position.
“We however believe that the best person for the position should be a leader with proven capacity, unquestionable loyalty to the party, broad national appeal and a political record free from divisive controversies,* he said
The coordinator further said that after a thorough assessment of the personalities being considered, the group was convinced that Sen. Tanko Al-Makura, a former governor of Nasarawa State stood out as the most suitable candidate for the position.
“The task ahead requires experience, character, and proven leadership. Sen. Al-Makura embodies these qualities and remains our preferred choice for the position,” Mamman said.
He added that Al-Makura a former senator who epresented Nasarawa South, remained one of the few founding fathers of the progressive movement whose political journey had been defined by discipline, integrity, humility, and service.
According to him, Al-Makura’s role in the growth and consolidation of the APC, particularly in the North- Central and across the country is well documented.
“He has consistently demonstrated commitment to the ideals of the party and maintained cordial relationships across political, ethnic, and religious divides.
“At a time when the APC is preparing for another critical electoral contest, the party requires a campaign manager who can unite all tendencies within the fold.
“The party also requires an individual who can coordinate stakeholders effectively and inspire confidence among party members as well as the general electorate. Al-Makura possesses these qualities in abundance.
“Importantly, his reputation as a bridge-builder and a leader without political baggage makes him a compelling choice.
“He commands respect among party leaders, governors, legislators, youth groups, women organisations, and grassroots supporters.”
Mamman therefore appealed to the APC leadership and all relevant stakeholders to consider Al-Makura for the position of the director-general of the party’s PCC.
He expressed confident that his appointment would strengthen party cohesion, energise the campaign structure, and enhance the APC’s prospects of securing a resounding victory in the 2027 presidential election.
He said the group was committed to the unity, stability, and electoral success of the APC.
He added that the group believed that merit, loyalty, competence, and integrity should remain the guiding principles in the selection of those who would lead the 2027 campaign machinery of the APC.(NAN)
