2027: ADC Guber Candidate Al-Amin Unveils 36-Year-Old Running Mate, Outlines Development Blueprint for Kano
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Kano State, Alhaji Ibrahim Al-Amin Little, has unveiled a 36-year-old ICT and Artificial Intelligence specialist, Abdulkadir Shehu Bari, as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election.
At the unveiling, Al-Amin outlined a development agenda focused on industrialisation, education, healthcare, agriculture, youth and women empowerment, social welfare, environmental management and basic infrastructure.
He said his administration would seek to transform Kano from a predominantly consumer-based economy into a productive and industrialised state by creating an enabling environment for businesses, reviving industries and supporting local entrepreneurs.
“Our vision is to make Kano a state that produces rather than merely consumes. We will rejuvenate industrialisation, support businesses and create opportunities for our people to become productive participants in the economy,” Al-Amin said.
On education, the ADC candidate pledged to reduce the number of out-of-school children by expanding access to basic education, constructing additional classrooms to address overcrowding and rehabilitating existing school infrastructure.
He also promised greater emphasis on vocational and technical training to equip young people with practical skills for employment and entrepreneurship.
“Education is the foundation of sustainable development. We will ensure that our children have access to quality education, while vocational training will give our youths the skills they need to earn a decent livelihood,” he said.
Al-Amin also identified social protection as a priority, promising food assistance, healthcare support and stipends for vulnerable groups, including orphans, widows and elderly citizens.
He said his administration would expand empowerment programmes for youths and women through skills acquisition and access to start-up capital to enable beneficiaries establish sustainable businesses.
In the health sector, he pledged to improve access to essential medicines, upgrade healthcare facilities and strengthen healthcare delivery across the state.
On agriculture, Al-Amin promised to provide farmers with quality seeds, fertilisers, agrochemicals and extension services, while promoting value addition to agricultural produce to improve farmers’ incomes and create employment opportunities.
“We will not limit our agricultural policy to giving farmers inputs. We will strengthen the entire value chain so that farmers can produce, process, add value and access better markets,” he said.
The candidate also promised measures to address environmental challenges, including large-scale tree planting to combat climate change and improved refuse collection and disposal.
He described drug abuse as a growing social challenge and pledged to combine rehabilitation with empowerment programmes to help victims recover and reintegrate into society.
Al-Amin further promised to tackle institutional corruption through stronger accountability and transparency mechanisms, while improving access to potable water for domestic and commercial use.
He also proposed hybrid energy solutions to improve electricity supply and pledged to develop housing interventions targeting less privileged residents.
36-Year-Old Running Mate
Mr. Bari was born in 1990 in Bari town, Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State. He is an ICT and Artificial Intelligence specialist.
His emergence as Al-Amin’s running mate brings a younger, technology-focused profile to the ADC ticket ahead of the 2027 election.
Speaking after his unveiling, Bari pledged to work closely with Al-Amin to advance the interests of young people and contribute to the development of Kano State if elected.
“I will be a good ambassador of the youth and work hand in hand with my principal to uplift Kano State and set it on the right path. Our young people deserve meaningful opportunities to participate in building the future of the state,” Bari said.
The ADC ticket will be seeking to sell the proposed agenda to Kano voters ahead of the 2027 governorship election, with emphasis on economic productivity, human capital development, social protection, technology and improved public services.
