An 18-year-old man, Abdullahi Aminu, has drowned after falling into a pond in Danbatta Local Government Area of Kano State.
The incident occurred at about 3:28 p.m. at Kofar Gabas, where Aminu reportedly fell into the pond and became submerged.
The Kano State Fire Service said rescuers were mobilised to the scene after receiving a distress call from the victim’s father, Aminu Lawan.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Fire Service spokesperson, ACFO Saminu Abdullahi, said personnel from the Danbatta Fire Station immediately responded to the emergency.
“Upon receiving the report, Fire Service personnel from the Danbatta fire station immediately mobilised to the scene,” the agency said.
The rescuers recovered Aminu from the pond unconscious and attempted to revive him, but he was later confirmed dead at the scene.
The Fire Service said the victim’s remains were subsequently handed over to the Secretary to the District Head of Danbatta, Baba Ado Sarkin Bai, for further necessary action.
The agency condoled with the deceased’s family and urged residents to exercise caution around ponds, waterways and other bodies of water to prevent similar incidents.
