Maimunatu Idris, a 25-year-old resident of Maigatari Local Government Area in Jigawa State, has been detained by the Kano State Police Command on suspicion of assaulting and cutting her boyfriend’s manhood at the Durbar Hotel in Badawa, Kano.
In a statement released on Monday, Police Public Relations Officer CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa confirmed the event, stating that the suspect used a sharp knife to attack her lover after learning of his plans to wed someone else.
Kiyawa said upon receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer led a team of detectives to the scene, where the suspect was arrested and the weapon recovered as an exhibit.
He added that the victim was rushed to Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital, where he is currently receiving medical care, with investigations ongoing.
Kiyawa further disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, condemned the act and warned members of the public against taking the law into their own hands.
Assuring residents that the command would conduct a thorough investigation and ensure the suspect is prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Meanwhile, an eyewitness working as a security personnel near the hotel told a news correspondent that the suspect had lured her boyfriend to lodge at the hotel after learning of his plan to end their relationship, saying she had asked him to stay there so they could be together, and used the opportunity to attack him.
The eyewitness said the suspect was immediately apprehended and handed over to the police, while the victim was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
