Sangare is another gem — The £39m Malian nightmare who broke Tottenham

Newly signed £39M Mali international Mamadou Sangare announced himself to the Premier League with a devastating debut assist, driving Brentford to a historic 3-0 demolition of Roberto De Zerbi’s Tottenham Hotspur.

Roberto De Zerbi’s expensive Tottenham Hotspur revolution has been violently derailed before it could even pull out of the station.

On a chaotic, deafening opening weekend at the Gtech Community Stadium, Brentford didn’t just beat Spurs, they completely and utterly dismantled them in a ruthless 3-0 slaughter.

While Tottenham rolled out flashy summer blockbusters like Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandez, they were completely bullied, suffocated, and humiliated by a new, terrifying force in English football: Brentford’s 39 million Malian international, Mamadou Sangare.

The Anatomy of a Destruction

From the very first whistle, Keith Andrews’ Brentford side operated with pure tactical violence and it took a mere 12 minutes for the trap to spring.

Sangare, making his highly anticipated Premier League debut after moving from Lens, showed the exact “gem” quality the club paid millions for.

The midfield powerhouse seized control of the engine room, split the fractured Tottenham defence wide open, and rolled a perfect assist into the path of Keane Lewis-Potter, who smashed home the opener.

Spurs offered precious little in response. By the 33rd minute, Vitaly Janelt doubled the misery, hammering home a second.

Just after the halftime break, another African, Nigerian, Michael Kayode walked through a comatose Tottenham backline to seal the 3-0 scoreline.

It easily could have been four or five, but Igor Thiago struck the post with a 55th-minute penalty kick.

The result matches Tottenham’s joint-heaviest opening-day defeat in the entire Premier League era. Pundits were quick to place the praise squarely on Brentford’s new recruitment masterstroke.

“Mamadou Sangare massively impressed me,” Premier League pundit Ben Mee raved after the match. “He played with energy and quality, always looked to go forward… Brentford have got this record of signing gems, and he looks like another one.”

Sangare’s explosive debut places him into the history books. He is now just the fifth player ever to score or assist on a Premier League debut for Brentford.

Despite entering the record books, his manager and teammates are keeping the pressure incredibly high to ensure the €39m star stays hungry.

“He’s alright, he’s started okay!” joked Brentford captain Nathan Collins. “We want more from him, though, more goals, more tackles. I think it’s just the start for us.”

Head coach Keith Andrews echoed the excitement but urged calm: “He’s settled in really well… the cohesion that he brings, the attributes that he has that add to an already really talented midfield, we’re really happy with him.”

As for Sangare, the man who just gave Roberto De Zerbi a tactical nightmare on day one is already looking forward. “It’s really good to start with a win with our fans,” the Malian international stated. “I hope we can continue like that.”
