Why I Never Publicly Supported Peter Obi or Any Politician – Falz

Nigerian rapper and actor Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has clarified that he has never publicly endorsed Peter Obi or any other politician, despite widespread assumptions about his political stance.

Speaking during an interview on Prime Time on Arise Television on Tuesday, the entertainer said his public advocacy has always focused on encouraging Nigerians to participate in elections rather than supporting individual candidates or political parties.

Falz explained that his position has remained consistent over the years, stressing that he believes in promoting a credible democratic process instead of aligning himself with politicians.

“Just a point of correction. I never openly supported Peter Obi or any politician or party in 2023 or at any point. I have actively encouraged people to go out and vote,” he said.

The award-winning artiste noted that his primary interest is seeing Nigeria’s democracy become stronger through transparent and credible elections.

He added that while he consistently urges citizens, especially young people, to exercise their voting rights, he has deliberately avoided publicly backing political figures.

According to Falz, the country’s political landscape continues to recycle familiar faces, making it difficult for him to confidently endorse any politician.

“I clamour for a free and fair democratic process. I haven’t stuck out my neck for any politician for obvious reasons,” he said.

He further stated that meaningful democratic progress depends on active citizen participation rather than blind loyalty to political leaders.

The comments come as political conversations ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum, with public figures increasingly being asked to clarify their political affiliations and endorsements.
