Controller General of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, has warned that the Service will never demand for money to fight fire during fire disaster.
The FFS boss, however, asked the general public to report any personnel demanding for money before, during or after firefighting to the Service.
In an interview with newsmen, Wednesday in Abuja, the FFS boss threatened to sanction any personnel caught in such act saying “the station, the head of that station, the state Comptroller of where such a thing happen will definitely be penalized for it.”
Adeyemi was responding to a recent viral video emanating from Rivers State where such allegation were made, explaining that the there is no presence of Federal Fire Service in the said location.
He said: “Federal Fire Service does not demand for money before fighting fire during fire fighting, and even after fire fighting. Federal Fire Service personnel would never do that because everything is being provided for us.
“The federal government has tried their best enough. Our salary is being paid as at when due, equipments and chemicals are provided, even the welfare of personnel is being taken care of. Through our Honorable Minister, there is no pending list of promotion. In this year 2026 alone those that are due for promotion have written their examination and before October the result will be out.
“So we have everything and I can beat my chest that Federal Fire Service did not request and will never request for any money before they carry out their statutory duty.
“And in any form, my ear, my eye are on ground, if any staff tries such, that staff, Nigerians should quickly report such staff to Federal Fire Service, because such staff is ready to go because we are being taken good care of.”
While calling on his staff to be more diligent and carry out their duty with dignity, the FFS boss added: “Anybody, any Federal Fire Service personnel that request for money, such a station should be reported to us at the headquarters. I assure you that the head, the state comptroller, will definitely be sanctioned. He will be removed from the office and will be dealt with.
“I repeat, the station, the head of that station, the state comptroller, where such a thing happened, will definitely be penalized for it.”
