US-Iran War Live Updates: The strikes began at 3 pm ET and were aimed at “continuing to degrade Iranian military capabilities” at the direction of President Donald Trump, CENTCOM said in a post on X.. Follow along for the latest updates.
The latest offensive comes as the United States and Iran continue to exchange attacks across West Asia, with the conflict increasingly centred on the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the Associated Press (AP), the US expanded its campaign by targeting Iranian infrastructure, including bridges, energy sites and facilities at a key port, following Trump’s threats to pressure Tehran over its grip on the strategic waterway.
Iran, meanwhile, has retaliated with missile attacks on US-allied countries in the region, including Qatar and Kuwait, AP reported. Tehran has also previously claimed to have targeted US military assets in Bahrain, while warning that the Strait of Hormuz would “never return to what it was before the 40-day war.”
The latest escalation follows the collapse of an interim ceasefire, with no clear end in sight to the conflict that began more than four months ago, according to AP.
