The University of Jos, UNIJOS, has informed that it has recorded more than 200 cases of examination malpractice involved in by its students in a single academic semester.
The Vice-Chancellor of the varsity, Tanko Ishaya, made this known during a meeting with staff and students over security issues at the institution, stating that the offenders were placed on penalties ranging from suspension and expulsion.
Ishaya during the forum on Friday, held that the management had set up an enforcement taskforce team to recover outstanding school fees owed by the students since 2022.
The Vice-Chancellor warned students against bringing mobile phones into examination halls to access AI applications, including ChatGPT.
He decried the increasing habit of bystanders recording violent incidents instead of alerting authorities, urging members of the university community to adopt a proactive approach to security.
He also cautioned students against allowing ethnic or political differences to undermine the unity of the institution.
“We are one big family. Your own brother is in trouble and the only thing you can do is record and post the video. That must change,” he said.
