The Nigerian Army has announced a major breakthrough in its counter-terrorism campaign, confirming that two high-profile terrorist commanders surrendered to troops of Sector 2 in Geidam on July 4, 2026.
The Army said the surrender represents another major blow to the terrorist group and underscores the effectiveness of sustained offensive operations against insurgents in the North-East.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Acting Media Information Officer, Captain Mohammed Goni, the surrendered commanders, identified as Munzirs within the terrorist leadership structure, arrived in Maiduguri at about 7:30 p.m. on July 5, 2026.
Preliminary interrogation, according to the statement, revealed that the commanders held influential positions within the terrorist hierarchy and possessed extensive knowledge of the group’s operational activities, command structure and logistics.
The Army said the two commanders are currently in military custody, where they are undergoing profiling, debriefing and intelligence exploitation.
“Initial intelligence obtained from the debriefing has provided valuable insights into the terrorists’ operational methods, sustainment mechanisms and support networks,” the Army said, adding that the information would enhance ongoing intelligence-led operations.
It added that sustained military pressure, backed by coordinated land and air operations as well as enhanced intelligence efforts, continues to deny the terrorists freedom of movement, degrade their combat capability and weaken their command and control structures.
Operation Hadin Kai reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the momentum of ongoing operations until all terrorist elements are neutralised or compelled to surrender.
It added that troops would continue to exploit actionable intelligence, intensify offensive operations and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to restore lasting peace and stability across the North-East.
