The Organised Labour in Ondo state has issued a final seven-day ultimatum to the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Federal University of Technology, Akure Teaching Hospital (FUTATH).
It warned that the workers would embark on an indefinite industrial action if alleged breaches of the hospital’s transition agreement are not addressed.
The ultimatum was conveyed in a jointly signed letter by the chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Ondo state, Comrade Ademola Adeniji Olapade, and the chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Clement Fatuase, following a strategic meeting of organised labour and health sector unions held on July 16, 2026.
The labour leaders accused the hospital management of violating the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) governing the transition process of FUTATH, alleging that some workers whose names appear on the agreed nominal roll had been excluded from enrolment into the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS).
The workers also alleged that inherited workers were compelled to sign documents renouncing their membership of registered trade unions as a condition for participating in the transition process and described the action as a violation of the constitutional right to freedom of association guaranteed under Section 40 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
Organised Labour further rejected allegations reportedly attributed to the CMD that the nominal roll attached to the MoU was “loaded,” adding that the issue had previously been reviewed during a meeting involving Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, labour leaders, the vice-chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), and other stakeholders.
