Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of Italy midfielder Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United in a deal reportedly worth up to £100 million ($133.4 million), making him the club’s most expensive signing.
The 26-year-old has signed a three-year contract after Tottenham agreed an initial fee of £92.5 million, with a further £7.5 million in performance-related add-ons.

“I’m very happy to be here,” Tonali said after completing the move.
“I spoke to the head coach for close to two hours about the club, the fans, the stadium and our football. It was like magic because I knew immediately that I had to sign for Tottenham.”
Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi described the Italian as “a special player and a great signing for our club.”
Tonali joined Newcastle from AC Milan in 2023 for £55 million and made 110 appearances for the Magpies, helping them end a 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy by winning the League Cup.
His spell at St James’ Park was, however, interrupted by a 10-month worldwide suspension imposed in 2023 for breaching betting regulations while playing in Italy. He also received a suspended two-month ban from the English Football Association in 2024 for further betting rule violations.
The midfielder has earned 32 caps for Italy, scoring four goals.
Tonali becomes Tottenham’s latest major addition following the arrivals of Mateus Fernandes, Jan Paul van Hecke, Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi as the club continues an ambitious squad rebuild under manager Roberto De Zerbi.
