President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has pledged to replicate the infrastructure development currently witnessed in the Federal Capital Territory across the rest of the country.
Tinubu made the promise while inaugurating the newly completed Transitway N-2, linking the Central Business District and Wuse District, including two bridges, a project executed by the FCT Administration in Abuja.
Represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, the President said his administration remained committed to delivering roads, bridges, rail lines and other critical infrastructure across the nation to drive economic growth, improve connectivity and enhance the quality of life of Nigerians.
He said the newly inaugurated corridor was yet another demonstration of his commitment, through the Renewed Hope Agenda, to building modern infrastructure capable of unlocking economic opportunities and promoting sustainable development. He described the project as a key component of the Abuja Master Plan, designed to ease traffic congestion, improve urban mobility and strengthen connectivity between major districts of the nation’s capital.
Tinubu said that for years, travelling between Wuse and the Central Area meant navigating bottlenecks, wasting productive hours and enduring frustrating traffic congestion, but that today that narrative has changed. He added that by reducing travel time and linking the two major districts, the administration was creating new commercial opportunities, improving productivity and making life easier for residents and businesses.
The President commended FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for what he described as the remarkable transformation taking place in the capital city through the faithful implementation of the Abuja Master Plan, telling him that he had contributed to something bigger than a road, that he had contributed to the future of the capital city and strengthened Nigeria’s pride.
For his part, Wike described the Transitway as a strategic transport corridor that would significantly improve movement between Wuse and the Central Business District.
He attributed the pace of infrastructure delivery in the FCT to President Tinubu’s support, particularly the decision to remove the FCT Administration from the Treasury Single Account.
Wike assured that more achievements of the Tinubu administration in the FCT would be unveiled on July 17, the final day of the ongoing inauguration of completed projects, saying there were many things the President had done that Nigerians were yet to learn about, and that by the last day of the inaugurations, the administration would present what had been done for the people of the FCT and Nigerians over the last three years.
He added that Nigerians needed to know why they should continue to support and pray for the administration.
He also announced that all roads within the FCT, including those not captured on Google Maps, would soon be digitally mapped to improve navigation across the city.
Minister of State for the FCT, Mariya Mahmoud, described the project as a strategic investment in connectivity, economic growth and urban efficiency, saying the completion of the corridor underscored the administration’s determination to build a modern, inclusive and functional capital city in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
