Three occupants die, children trap under Ogun collapse building

Three people have died alongside others, including children, trapped and others severely injured and needing medical intervention after a one-storey-building collapse in Ogun State.

Three bodies, including one a child, were brought out of the building seen with a damaged foundation and cracks on its wall, others which included two children and a grandmother evacuated and rushed to a hospital during the mishap.

A male occupant of the house, after the incident yesterday, was said to have come out of the structure unscathed, claiming that his wife and children were trapped under the debris, leading to calls to the Ogun State Emergency Rescue Agency to mobilize its officers to engage in an emergency rescue exercise.

The incident which happened at Baale Road in Ajuwon area was said to have caused panic and grief in the area as the residents stated that no rescue operation commenced for about four hours after the house breakdown, raising concerns on likely survivors from the devastating occurrence.

Although circumstances behind the incident is not yet revealed, many residents, on Tuesday, cited poor building plans as well as substandard building materials were most probably used in erecting property.
