6/7July 31 | Ranger 7 sends first close-up Moon images | On this day in 1964, NASA’s Ranger 7 spacecraft transmitted the first close-up images of the Moon before deliberately crashing into its surface. The mission provided crucial data that helped pave the way for the Apollo Moon landings later in the decade.
7/7August 1 | MTV changes the music industry | On this day in 1981, MTV went on air in the United States with the words, “Ladies and gentlemen, rock and roll.” The first music video broadcast was Video Killed the Radio Star by The Buggles.
