Thai PM on sax, Malaysian PM on mic: Leaders' 'My Way' duet goes viral

Thailand Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim shared a light-hearted musical moment on Thursday, July 9, during an official luncheon in Kuala Lumpur.

Anutin played the saxophone while Anwar performed the classic songs “My Way” and “Can’t Help Falling in Love”.

A video of the performance has now gone viral on social media. The clip captures Anwar Ibrahim singing into a handheld microphone while glancing at his phone for the lyrics, as Anutin Charnvirakul plays the saxophone alongside him. The two leaders’ performance is met with cheers and applause from those present.
The now-viral performance took place during Anutin’s two-day official visit to Malaysia, his first since taking office in March this year. The two leaders held bilateral talks on strengthening cooperation in areas including trade, investment, tourism and education.

During the visit, the leaders also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on agricultural cooperation aimed at boosting collaboration between the two neighbouring nations.

Anutin, accompanied by his wife Thananon Charnvirakul, was welcomed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport by Anwar. He was accorded a ceremonial welcome, including a guard of honour by Malaysia’s Royal Ranger Regiment, before beginning his official engagements.

Following the luncheon, Anwar Ibrahim shared a post on X, saying the event showcased the rich traditions and cultural diversity of Malaysia and Thailand. “This space continues to be used to strengthen ties of friendship, while also fostering a deeper understanding of the unique cultural aspects and shared values between the two countries,” he wrote.

Thailand is one of Malaysia’s key trading partners. Bilateral trade between the two ASEAN countries reached about $ 27.73 billion in 2025, while trade during the first quarter of 2026 touched about $ 7.90 billion, up from $6.15 billion during the same period last year.
