An unknown number of students are feared trapped under rubble after a hostel occupied by students collapsed near Oko Polytechnic in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
It was gathered that the multi-storey building gave way without warning on Saturday night while the occupants, whose identities and number have yet to be confirmed, had retired for the day.
A video obtained from the scene showed students and residents of the community screaming and watching helplessly as emergency responders carried out rescue operations to save those trapped.
According to sources on Monday, emergency responders were carrying out a search-and-rescue operation at the scene to locate people trapped beneath the collapsed hostel.
As of the time of filing this report, the exact number of people trapped beneath the rubble had yet to be confirmed, while the cause of the collapse remained unknown.
