Super Eagles forward Simon Moses has vowed to sustain his foundation’s development programmes permanently, following the successful discovery of over 50 talented young footballers across Kaduna State.
Speaking exclusively to Elanza News after the grand finale of the Simon Moses Foundation U/17 Championship at the Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA) Kotoko Barracks on Sunday, the founder stressed the importance of structured platforms for aspiring footballers. The tournament featured more than 60 teams competing across the Kaduna North and South zones, culminating in a fiercely contested final.
Kubarachi Football Academy emerged champions after edging Ikon Allah Football Academy 5-4 on penalties, following a 1-1 draw in regulation time. The victors received ₦500,000, while the runners-up took home ₦300,000. In the third-place play-off, Powerful Boys Academy secured the bronze medal with a 2-0 victory over Arewa Youth Football Academy, earning ₦200,000. All eight finalist teams were presented with a pair of jerseys each in recognition of their performances.
In a significant boost for women’s football, the foundation hosted a four-day clinic led by Belgian-based UEFA-licensed coach Dalu Godwin. The programme focused on technical skills, tactical awareness, and personal development, concluding with an exhibition match in which Team Orange defeated Team Blue. Mrs Simon reinforced the commitment to female participation by donating ₦500,000 to support the girls’ footballing journeys.
The French Embassy in Nigeria further enriched the initiative by equipping the 36 selected female participants with footballs, boots, and other essential gear.
Reaffirming his vision, Moses stated: “We must continue investing in youth football to create clear pathways for both boys and girls.” He emphasised that the foundation will remain a beacon for talent identification and career development, strengthening grassroots football in Kaduna State and inspiring the next generation of Nigerian stars.
