Sadio Mane quits Senegal national team after 14yrs

Sadio Mane has announced his retirement from international football bringing to an end his spell with the Senegalese national team 14 years .

34-year-old Mane made the announcement following the conclusion of Senegal’s campaign at the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup in a farewell letter sent from Dakar, the footballer apologized to his people for failing to achieve expected results and emphasized that he gave his all in every second he wore the national team jersey.

The player, while making the declaration on Saturday, expressed gratitude to the fans who supported him throughout his long career, acknowledging that their encouragement was the main engine of his success.

Although the forward has hung up his boots, he expressed readiness to use his experience for the development of national football in the future, revealing his intention to work in the coaching staff, as a technical director, or in football governing bodies.

The former Liverpool player made a total of 132 appearances for the Teranga Lions, scoring 55 goals, helping the west African side win their first and only African Cup of Nations, AFCON, in 2021.
