The Nigeria Police Force has strengthened its capacity to tackle emerging security threats through a partnership with the United States Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) and the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).
The collaboration culminated in the final phase of the Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction (C-WMD) Curriculum Development Workshop for the Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Command, held at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
According to the force on Monday, the workshop brought together delegations from DTRA, led by Major Brittany Brown; ONSA, led by Pamela West; and the Police EOD-CBRN Command, led by Commissioner of Police Hauwa Ibrahim.
The programme marked the conclusion of an intensive Train-the-Trainers initiative aimed at equipping police personnel with specialised skills to prevent, detect, respond to and investigate chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive threats.
Declaring the workshop open on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, Umar Nadada, said the initiative was a critical step towards strengthening the Force’s operational readiness.
According to him, the evolving nature of modern security threats requires proactive policing, continuous operational training and stronger collaboration among security agencies and international partners.
Nadada thanked DTRA and ONSA for supporting the initiative and urged participants to uphold high professional standards while sharing the knowledge acquired with other personnel across the Force.
He added that the training would enhance the Police Force’s ability to protect lives, safeguard critical infrastructure and strengthen Nigeria’s overall security architecture.
In her remarks, Commissioner of Police Hauwa Ibrahim thanked DTRA and ONSA for their partnership in developing the curriculum, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to integrating the framework into police training programmes.
She also called for sustained collaboration in specialised equipment procurement, technical support and capacity building to further enhance the Command’s operational effectiveness.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to strengthening inter-agency cooperation and international partnerships as part of efforts to build specialised operational capacity and improve national security.
