Law officers in Kwara State have begun an indefinite strike following a reported unpaid statutory allowances as well as some dissatisfied salary payment measures.
A statement by the state’s chapter of the Law Officers Association of Nigeria directed its members to immediately withdraw their services pending the government’s response to their demands to the government to harmonize their salaries along with the conditions of service of the state judiciary magistrates.
The action as well as their disgruntlement was conveyed in a statement issued by the states chapter of the Law Officers Association of Nigeria, LOAN, stating that the strike has begun on July 27 and until further notice.
”Please take note that LOAN, Kwara State Chapter, commences her indefinite strike action today, July 27, 2026, until government responds to her demands,” the statement made available on Monday reads.
The solidarity call is sequel to a held seven-day ultimatum earlier by issued by the association to Governor Abdulrahman Abulrazaq over over lingering welfare concerns, stating that the administration has failed to pay the outstanding balance of its members’ 2020 furniture allowances for 2024, 2025 and 2026.
The officers held that several appeals have been made to Abdulrazak but has failed to yield positive results, despite an assurance given to them after a three-day warning strike held in October 2025.
It further stated that the alleged welfare infractions are uncalled for as it maintained that its members play critical roles in the administration of justice which includes prosecuting criminal cases, providing legal advice to government agencies, recovering public revenue through the prosecution of tax defaulters as well as drafting bills.
