A 25-year-old woman has been arrested by operatives of the Kano State Police Command for allegedly severing her lover’s penis during a violent confrontation at a hotel in the Badawa area of Kano.
The suspect, identified as Maimunatu Idris, is accused of attacking the man with a knife inside a room at Durbar Hotel after allegedly learning that he intended to end their relationship and marry another woman.
The victim survived the attack and is receiving treatment at Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital.
An eyewitness, believed to be a security worker near the hotel, said the suspect had invited the victim to meet her after discovering his plans to end their relationship.
According to the witness, the woman allegedly attacked the man with a sharp knife while they were inside the hotel room, inflicting severe injuries before people nearby responded to his cries for help.
“The suspect was immediately restrained by people at the scene and later handed over to the police, while the injured man was rushed to hospital for emergency medical attention,” the eyewitness said.
Confirming the incident in a statement issued yesterday, the Kano State Police Command said the suspect, who hails from Maigatari Local Government Area of Jigawa State, was arrested shortly after the alleged attack.
The command said officers responded to a distress call from witnesses and recovered the knife allegedly used in the assault.
“The suspect was apprehended at the scene shortly after the incident, while the alleged weapon has been recovered and retained as an exhibit for investigation,” the command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, said.
Police said detectives have launched a full investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident before the case is charged in court.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, condemned the alleged attack, describing it as a disturbing act of violence that cannot be justified under any circumstances.
“No individual has the right to take the law into their own hands. We are committed to carrying out a thorough investigation, and anyone found responsible will face prosecution in accordance with the law,” Bakori said.
The Kano State Police Command urged residents to refrain from resorting to violence in resolving personal disputes, stressing that grievances should be addressed through lawful channels while assuring the public that justice would be pursued.
