The Kogi state Police Command has concluded its investigation into the alleged culpable homicide of a school staff member, Mariam Usman, with the arrest of three suspects now set for prosecution.
A staff of Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School in Ugbamaka, Olamaboro local government area, Mariam Usman, died on June 25, 2026, following injuries sustained from multiple assaults.
In a statement issued Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, stated that detectives from the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Lokoja, launched an intensive investigation immediately after the case was reported.
The statement said preliminary findings revealed that the incidents leading to her death began on June 17, 2026, when one Abdullahi Isiaka allegedly assaulted the deceased at her residence over disciplinary action she took against his 11-year-old son during school hours.
The police further stated that later the same day, the victim was attacked while on her way to the mosque by one Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo.
“Investigations also showed that on June 18, 2026, Ojonojima Mary, said to be the younger sister of Ramatu, allegedly stormed the school premises and assaulted the deceased at her workplace.
“Following the attacks, the victim was initially treated at a clinic in Ugbamaka before she was referred to another medical facility in Okpo for further treatment, where she eventually died,” the statement said.
The command stated that a prima facie case of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide has been established against the three suspects—Ojonojima Mary, Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo, and Abdullahi Isiaka, adding that the suspects will be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction for prosecution.
