A petition submitted to the Federal Government has called for an investigation into allegations of aviation security breaches involving Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
The petition, dated July 12, 2026, was addressed to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and copied to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) as well as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The petitioner, who identified himself as a concerned employee in Nigeria’s aviation industry, urged the authorities to investigate what he described as repeated violations of aviation security procedures, passenger identification requirements and regulatory compliance.
According to the petition, the allegations centre on Obi and a female passenger described as one of his media aides.
The petitioner claimed the woman had previously been barred from travelling with Air Peace following alleged incidents of misconduct at airport facilities. Despite the reported restriction, the petition alleged that she continued travelling on the airline under different identities.
The petition further claimed that Obi repeatedly accompanied the passenger on some of the trips and allegedly helped facilitate her travel despite the airline’s restrictions.
According to the document, such actions, if established, could undermine aviation security procedures and compromise passenger identification processes.
The petitioner also alleged that airline personnel were prevented on several occasions from carrying out identity verification whenever Obi travelled with the passenger.
In support of the allegations, the petitioner claimed to have attached documents, including flight records and Passenger Name Record (PNR) details, which he said could assist investigators in verifying the claims.
The petition requested that the Federal Ministry of Aviation, the NCAA and other relevant agencies examine passenger manifests, booking records, CCTV footage, boarding records and other operational documents to determine whether any aviation regulations or other applicable laws were breached.
As of the time of filing this report, Peter Obi had not publicly responded to the allegations contained in the petition. Likewise, the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, the NCAA and the EFCC had not announced any official investigation into the matter.
