The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State, Suleiman Bolakale, has picked a former chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Cornelius Fawenu, as his running mate for the 2027 gubernatorial poll in the state.
Kawu, an engineer, stated that the decision to pick Fawenu was because of the leadership qualities the former CAN chairman possessed, describing him as a leader of integrity, humility, and compassion.
The gubernatorial candidate, who formally communicated his choice in a letter to the Kwara PDP chairman on Wednesday in Ilorin, the state capital, added that the clergyman’s selection further reflects the PDP’s commitment to inclusivity and purposeful governance.

In a statement made available to newsmen by the party’s spokesperson, Olusegun Adewara, the PDP stressed that Fawenu’s choice followed extensive consultations, deliberations, and a rigorous selection process involving the party’s governorship candidate and key stakeholders.
The party added that the Kawu-Fawenu ticket combines experience, grassroots engagement, innovation, and religious balance, positioning itself to rescue Kwara from misgovernance and insecurity.
It urged members and supporters to rally behind the ticket as the movement to reclaim the state gathers momentum.
