LOYALISTS and associates of former Ogun State Governor, Chief Olusegun Osoba, on Wednesday organised an interfaith prayer session in Abeokuta to celebrate his 87th birthday.

The event, held at Osoba’s residence, attracted political leaders, clerics, traditional representatives and APC faithful, who offered prayers for his good health, long life, and continued service to Nigeria.

Pastor Isaiah Olayeni of St. Michael’s Church, Ago-Oba Archdeaconry, described Osoba as a rare leader devoted to God and humanity, urging Nigerians to emulate his humility, commitment and selfless service.

Olayeni prayed for God’s continued grace upon the elder statesman, describing him as a father in the faith whose exemplary life had inspired generations of leaders.

Also, Imam Morufudeen Alim of Ago-Oba Central Mosque, praised Osoba’s support for the mosque and the Muslim community and prayed for his long life, sound health and greater blessings.

Speaking on the sidelines of the event, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Iziaq Salako, described Osoba as one of the surviving pillars of Nigeria’s democracy, citing his contributions to journalism, governance and the pro-democracy struggle.

Salako said Osoba remained a national leader and prayed that he would witness future political milestones, including the inauguration of Sen. Solomon Adeola as Ogun governor in 2027 and beyond.

Also speaking, the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Oludaisi Elemide, described Osoba as a patient, resilient, and selfless leader whose enduring legacy continues to inspire politicians across the country.

Elemide said he had drawn leadership lessons from Osoba, describing him as calm, principled and steadfast despite political challenges, while praying for many more years of relevance and good health.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event was attended by the Ogun APC Chairman, Yemi Sanusi, other party leaders, family members, friends and admirers. (NAN)
