The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Nasarawa state, Ahmed Aliyu Wadada, has defended the economic policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying that only enemies of Nigeria would want the current administration to fail.
Speaking with State House correspondents Thursday after meeting President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Wadada said the president’s economic reforms were already yielding positive results, as reflected in key national economic indicators.
He added that his visit to the villa was part of ongoing consultations on how to contribute to the country’s growth in line with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“My mission to the villa, as always, is to see how best we will all contribute our quota to the growth and development of Nigeria, which is the utmost objective of President Asiwaju Tinubu,” he said.
He added that Nigeria’s economy had recorded significant improvements since President Tinubu assumed office, pointing to the increase in foreign reserves, improved balance of payments, stronger trade performance, exchange rate stability and renewed investor confidence in the capital market.
He said the country’s foreign reserves have almost doubled under the present administration.
“When he came in, it was below $30 billion, between $28 billion and $29 billion. Today we are talking about between $56 billion and $57 billion in our foreign reserves,” he said.
He also attributed the relative stability of the naira to the administration’s foreign exchange reforms, particularly the unification of the various exchange rate windows.
“All the windows have been closed and unified, which has greatly informed today’s stability of the naira against the dollar,” he said.
