The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has dismissed a recruitment update circulating across social media platforms, describing it as fake and urging Nigerians not to fall victim to fraudsters using the false information.
The Service said the viral recruitment notice did not originate from the agency and warned members of the public to rely only on official communication channels for authentic information regarding recruitment and other activities.
The warning comes as recruitment scams continue to target thousands of Nigerians seeking employment in government agencies, with fraudsters often demanding payments from unsuspecting applicants.
Customs disowns viral recruitment notice
In a statement issued on Thursday, the NCS said the purported recruitment update making the rounds on social media was entirely false and should be disregarded.
According to the Service, no recruitment exercise has been announced through the channels referenced in the circulating message.
“The Nigeria Customs Service wishes to inform the public that the purported recruitment update currently circulating on some social media platforms is fake and did not originate from the Service,” the statement read.
The agency stressed that all official announcements concerning recruitment would only be released through its verified communication platforms.
Public advised to rely on official channels
The Customs Service urged Nigerians to verify information before sharing or acting on any recruitment-related publication.
It warned that fraudsters frequently exploit the desire of job seekers by creating fake recruitment advertisements and impersonating government institutions to obtain money or personal information.
The Service reiterated that members of the public should ignore unofficial websites, social media pages and individuals claiming to conduct recruitment on behalf of the agency.
It noted that official information concerning recruitment, promotions and other institutional activities would always be made available through recognised communication channels.
Verified social media handles announced
To help Nigerians identify genuine information, the Service listed its verified social media platforms, including its Facebook page, Nigeria Customs Service, and its official Instagram, X, Threads and TikTok accounts using the handle @customsng.
The agency encouraged citizens to follow only its verified accounts for credible updates and avoid spreading unverified messages capable of misleading others.
The statement concluded by urging Nigerians to remain vigilant and verify every piece of information before sharing or responding to it.
Recruitment scams have remained a recurring problem in Nigeria, prompting government agencies and security organisations to repeatedly warn job seekers that legitimate recruitment exercises are transparent, free of charge and announced only through official platforms.
