THE Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) says it has commenced the installation of 200 solar-powered street lights at Auchi Polytechnic as part of efforts to strengthen security within the institution.
Mr Mathias Ikpefua, the Director, Community and Rural Development, NDDC stated this when he led delegates of the commission on a courtesy visit to the management of the polytechnic on Monday.
According to him, the solar street light intervention is designed to improve security, enhance visibility across the campus, and provide a more conducive environment for learning and work.
“This project is part of a larger NDDC intervention involving the installation of 245 solar-powered street lights.
“With 200 units designated for Auchi polytechnic and the remaining 45 units for the Igbei community, the project is expected to enhance night time visibility and improve security within the polytechnic environment upon completion,” he said.
The NDDC official encouraged the management of the institution to sustain its collaboration with the commission to attract more developmental projects and infrastructure to the polytechnic.
Speaking, representative of the contracting firm, Tosamila Global Resources Ltd,, Mr Jonathan Ibrahim, said 200 solar lights would be installed in the polytechnic while 45 would be installed around the community.
He said the installation work would commence immediately to ensure the timely completion of the project for the benefit of staff, students, and other members of the polytechnic community.
Responding on behalf of the management of the institution, Dr Edith Oyati, the Deputy Rector (Administration), thanked NDDC for the intervention.
Oyati described the NDDC intervention as a significant contribution to the development of the polytechnic.
She, however, urged the contractor to execute the project in line with approved specifications and within the agreed time frame. (NAN)
