The African Development Bank Group, in collaboration with African governments and the African Union Commission, will on July 10 host a high-level ministerial forum on critical minerals value chains and beneficiation in Abidjan.

The forum, with the theme “Ministerial Forum on Critical Minerals Value Chain, and Beneficiation: Pathways for African Transformation,” will be held at the Radisson Blu Hotel Abidjan Airport from 8:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. GMT.

The meeting is expected to bring together African ministers responsible for mining, energy, industry, green economy and natural resources, alongside senior officials from regional development banks, the African Union Commission, the Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, regional financial institutions, development partners, technical experts and institutional investors.

According to the organisers, discussions will focus on strategies for strengthening Africa’s critical minerals value chains through local beneficiation, value addition and sustainable financing.

The forum will examine how Africa can leverage its vast reserves of critical minerals—including cobalt, lithium, graphite, rare earth elements, platinum group metals, copper, manganese and nickel—to accelerate industrialisation, energy security, infrastructure development, digital transformation, job creation and regional economic resilience.

Participants are also expected to deliberate on measures to mobilise blended finance, guarantees and institutional capital to bridge Africa’s investment gap in the critical minerals sector under the New African Financial Architecture for Development (NAFAD), adopted through the Abidjan Consensus in April 2026.

The meeting is expected to align recommendations with the objectives of Agenda 2063, the African Green Minerals Vision and the African Development Bank Group’s development strategy aimed at promoting sustainable economic transformation across the continent.

The event will take place on Friday, July 10, at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
