The Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI has carried out a precision airstrike on a suspected gathering of Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters in Yaganari, Borno State, as part of ongoing military operations to degrade terrorist activities in the North-East.
The operation was disclosed by counter-insurgency analyst Zagazola Makama, who cited military sources as saying the strike followed intelligence-led surveillance that tracked suspected insurgents to a meeting point.
The airstrike was conducted in the early hours of Friday after intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) assets confirmed the target.
According to the report, surveillance aircraft initially identified four suspected terrorists, two of whom later led operatives to a location where about 12 ISWAP fighters had assembled.
After confirming the target and ensuring all operational requirements had been met, the military authorised the strike.
“A precision strike was executed against the location at about 12:32 a.m., hitting the gathering,” the report stated.
A preliminary battle damage assessment indicated that an unconfirmed number of the insurgents were neutralised, while several others fled the area in different directions.
Makama said surveillance aircraft remained over the location after the strike to monitor the fleeing suspects and identify possible targets for follow-up operations.
According to military sources, the operation forms part of sustained intelligence-driven efforts under Operation HADIN KAI to prevent insurgents from regrouping, disrupt their activities and maintain pressure on terrorist enclaves across the North-East.
The latest offensive is one of several air operations targeting suspected terrorist hideouts, logistics bases and movement corridors in Borno State in support of ongoing ground operations.
