ANTHONY Yakubu, 56, on Tuesday, appeared before a Life Camp Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, accused of assaulting his estranged parnter and inflicting injury on her head.
Yakubu, a resident of Kado village, Abuja, is being prosecuted by the police on a four-count charge of criminal force, assault, cheating, and causing hurt.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.
The Prosecutor, Bankole Babatunde, holding brief of Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that the complainant, Biskella Stephen, reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station on July 22.
Babatunde said that the defendant and the complainant had cohabited as husband and wife before things fell apart between them.
He said that sometime in February 2024, the defendant chased Biskella and their children out of the house, which she built, and left her to solely cater for the children.
The prosecutor said that defendant rented out the house and converted the N500,000 rent fee to his own personal use.
Babatunde said that on July 5, the complainant went to the house to retrieve her empty gallons of oil, in the process the defendant beat her up, inflicting injury on her head.
The prosecutor said that during Police investigation the defendant could not give satisfactory reason for his action.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 322, 244, 322, and 266 of the penal code.
The Chief Magistrate, Musa Jobbo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000, with one surety in like sum.
Jobbo ordered that the surety must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction and should provide valid means of identification.
He adjourned the case till Sept. 17 for hearing. (NAN)
