THE Lagos State Government has issued a query to an officer of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps over alleged bribery captured in a viral video.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a post on his official X handle on Friday.
Wahab said the officer was allegedly seen receiving a bribe from a suspected environmental offender.
He described the alleged conduct as unacceptable, saying it violated the rules, ethics and core values of the sanitation corps.
The commissioner said the officer would appear before the Personnel Management Board for investigation in line with the Lagos State Civil Service Rules and Regulations.
He said any officer found culpable would face appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with the regulations.
Wahab reaffirmed the state government’s zero-tolerance policy on corruption and other forms of misconduct in the public service.
He also warned residents against offering bribes to enforcement officers, stressing that giving a bribe is as unlawful as receiving one.
The commissioner urged Lagos residents to obey environmental laws and support government efforts to promote integrity, accountability and public confidence in law enforcement.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transparency and professionalism in enforcing environmental regulations across the state. (NAN)
