The Lagos State Police Command has arrested three suspected cultists in Imota, recovering firearms, ammunition and other dangerous weapons during an intelligence-led operation.
The arrest is part of the Command’s ongoing efforts to disrupt cult activities and prevent violent crimes across the state, as security operatives intensify operations against criminal networks.
The suspects, alleged members of the Aiye Confraternity, were arrested on Wednesday following credible information from residents about cult-related activities in the area.
Acting on the intelligence, operatives stormed the location and apprehended Jelili Adeyemo, 37, who is alleged to be the group’s armourer, alongside Bisoye Adewale, 42, and John Okeafo, 60.
According to the command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, items recovered during the operation included one Beretta pistol, one locally made pistol, seven Dane guns, 10 live cartridges, seven expended cartridges, one stun gun, two handcuffs, four cutlasses and other dangerous weapons.
She stated that preliminary investigation revealed that the recovered Beretta pistol belonged to a notorious cultist identified as “Mayibone”, who is currently at large.
The police spokesperson added that the suspects have been arraigned and remanded, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing members of the group and recover more weapons.
Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling cultism and violent crimes in Lagos State, urging residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
“Members of the public are encouraged to report suspicious persons, vehicles, or activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines,” Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said in a statement.
The Command said it would continue to strengthen intelligence-driven operations aimed at improving safety and security across the state.
