As part of efforts to restore environmental order, the Lagos State Government has warned that anyone found encroaching on public spaces or using them for illegal activities along the Lagos–Badagry Expressway will be arrested and prosecuted.
The warning follows an intensified three-week operation to clear shanties, illegal structures and other environmental nuisances along the expressway as part of efforts to restore order and improve the corridor’s environment.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, the clearance exercise will be followed by sustained surveillance and continuous monitoring to prevent a return of illegal activities.
The government said enforcement officers would maintain a constant presence along the corridor to ensure that public spaces are not converted into illegal markets or occupied for unauthorized private use.
“Over the past three weeks, our enforcement team has intensified the clearance of shanties, illegal structures, and other environmental nuisances along the Lagos–Badagry Expressway. This exercise will be followed by sustained surveillance and continuous monitoring to ensure that environmental order is restored and maintained along the corridor,” the commissioner stated.
It urged residents and traders to respect and preserve the environment by refraining from encroaching on public spaces, warning that anyone found violating the directive would face arrest and prosecution in accordance with the extant laws of Lagos State.
“Anyone found encroaching on public spaces or using them for unlawful purposes will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the extant laws of Lagos State,” he warned.
The state government reiterated its commitment to restoring and maintaining environmental order across Lagos, urging members of the public to support its efforts by complying with environmental regulations.
