The League of Kunav Appointees has passed a vote of confidence on Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia of Benue state, declaring its unwavering loyalty and support for his administration’s achievements across key sectors of governance.
Rev. Solomon Semaka, who addressed journalists on behalf of the League during a press conference in Makurdi, Monday, said “Governor Alia has demonstrated purposeful leadership through reforms, infrastructure development, economic revitalisation, youth empowerment, education, industrialization, and rural transformation.”
Among the achievements listed by the League were the construction of major urban infrastructure, including the underpass and flyover projects in Makurdi, expansion of intra-city road networks, improved drainage systems, installation of streetlights, and urban renewal initiatives aimed at improving the state’s investment climate.
On workers’ welfare, the appointees praised the administration for maintaining regular payment of salaries and pensions, noting that prompt payments had restored confidence among civil servants and retirees while stimulating commercial activities across the state.
The group also commended reforms in the education sector, particularly through the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), where the administration has provided monthly grants to schools, upgraded educational infrastructure, established e-libraries, distributed motorcycles to schools, and recruited more than 9,000 teachers to strengthen basic education while creating employment opportunities for young people.
In the area of industrial development, the appointees said Alia’s efforts to revive the historic Taraku Mills, restoring its production capacity after years of inactivity is worthy of commendation for a government that has been needlessly distracted by opposition elements.
They further praised the efforts of the Benue Investment and Property Company (BIPC) under the leadership of Dr. Raymond Asemakaha, citing the establishment of bread and water production facilities, fruit juice manufacturing, nail production, and transport hire-purchase schemes as initiatives designed to boost local production, create jobs, and reduce the cost of essential goods and services.
Speaking separately, the appointees described the governor’s leadership as a people oriented, driven by reforms that have prioritised the welfare of ordinary citizens above political interests.
“Indeed, the Alia administration has shifted governance from politics of propaganda to practical development through the execution of visible legacy projects”, they stated.
