The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has commenced registration for candidates seeking admission into Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) and non-technological agricultural programmes, following the Federal Government’s decision to waive the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) requirement for the courses.
The Board stated that eligible candidates with the required O’Level credits can complete their registration at any Institutional Professional Registration Centre (IPRC) in Colleges of Education or any JAMB Professional Registration Centre (PRC) nationwide without sitting for the UTME.
Announcing the commencement of the exercise in a statement on Thursday, JAMB’s Director of Public Affairs and Protocol, Fabian Benjamin, urged prospective applicants to take advantage of the registration window by visiting the designated centres with their O’Level credentials to begin the admission process.
Benjamin explained that the registration is open to candidates seeking admission into NCE programmes offered by Colleges of Education as well as non-technological agricultural programmes in polytechnics, provided they possess the prescribed O’Level credit passes for their chosen courses.
He noted that the initiative follows the Federal Government’s earlier approval exempting candidates for the programmes from writing the annual UTME, a move aimed at broadening access to teacher education and agricultural training while maintaining academic standards.
According to him, although UTME is no longer a requirement for admission into the affected programmes, JAMB has established a comprehensive admission framework to ensure that only qualified candidates are admitted, thereby preserving the integrity and quality of the programmes.
Under the new arrangement, eligible applicants are only required to visit any designated Institutional Professional Registration Centre in Colleges of Education or any JAMB Professional Registration Centre nationwide with their O’Level results to complete the registration process.
The Board also disclosed that candidates who participated in the 2026 UTME but have subsequently decided to pursue NCE or non-technological agricultural programmes can convert their existing applications at any IPRC or JAMB PRC without paying any additional fee.
JAMB encouraged all eligible candidates to promptly take advantage of the opportunity by completing their registration at the designated centres, stressing that the policy is designed to expand access to NCE and agricultural education while ensuring that admission into the programmes remains merit-based and quality-driven.
