Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has directed security forces to intensify surveillance and patrols in Bin Mper, Kombun District of Mangu Local Government Area, and other vulnerable communities following a fresh attack in the area.
The directive followed the attack, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday in Bin Mper community, which resulted in the death of at least 20 residents.
In a statement issued by the Plateau State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Ramnap, the governor condemned the attack, describing it as a threat to the peace and security being consolidated across the state.
He expressed deep concern over the violence and sympathised with residents and families affected by the incident, while urging community members to remain calm and refrain from any form of reprisal.
Mutfwang also urged residents to provide credible and timely information to security personnel to assist in identifying and apprehending those responsible for the attack.
The state government cautioned residents against taking the law into their own hands, stressing that reprisal attacks could further undermine efforts to restore lasting peace in the area.
It reiterated that the protection of lives and property remained a priority of the Mutfwang administration, adding that the government would continue to collaborate with traditional rulers, community leaders, youth organisations, religious leaders and security agencies to strengthen peaceful coexistence.
The government further appealed to residents of Bin Mper and neighbouring communities to remain vigilant, peaceful and law-abiding, and to report suspicious activities to the relevant authorities.
