IRGC claims strike on US base in Kuwait; worker at Chinese firm killed

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed on Friday, July 31, that it had attacked Kuwait’s Ali al-Salem airbase, which hosts US forces, Al Jazeera reported.

The strike destroyed two drone hangars and set fire to a fuel tank used for military aircraft and helicopters, according to an IRGC statement carried by Iran’s Tasnim news agency.

The claim came a day after Kuwait’s military said an Iranian strike had hit a building belonging to a Chinese company in the country’s north, killing one worker and causing extensive damage, AP reported.

The US did not announce any fresh strikes on Iran overnight. Its last reported operation was a “heavy wave of strikes” completed at 10 pm ET on July 29 in response to attempted Iranian missile attacks on American forces.

US Central Command said the operation targeted dozens of IRGC sites, including “military command centers, missile and drone facilities, coastal surveillance and defense sites, and maritime capabilities”.

More than 50,000 US service members remain deployed across West Asia, according to CENTCOM’s latest update.
