A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abdulmalik Zubairu, representing Bungudu/Maru federal constituency, has called on the people of Zamfara state to protect themselves amid worsening insecurity in the state.
Speaking in an interview with newsmen, Sunday, Zubairu, who also holds the traditional title of Zannan Bungudu, said the situation in Zamfara has reached what he described as a ‘breaking point’.
“I am advising the people of Zamfara to take steps to protect themselves by acquiring modern fire arms.”
Zubairu lamented that communities in Zamfara have been under sustained attacks by bandits for years, with killings, kidnappings, and destruction of farmlands becoming almost daily occurrences.
He said residents can no longer rely solely on conventional security responses.
He said the repeated attacks and the slow response have left citizens vulnerable, forcing many to flee their ancestral homes.
“When government structures appear overwhelmed, the people must also organise within the ambit of the law to safeguard their lives and property,” he added.
The lawmaker urged residents to remain law-abiding and to work with local vigilante groups and security operatives where possible, while urging the federal government to deploy more resources to the North-west.
