Popular Nigerian TikToker and livestreamer Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, has spoken publicly about his time in police detention, describing the experience as one of the toughest moments of his life.
The 21-year-old said he spent nearly four days in custody, during which he claimed he neither bathed nor ate for most of the period.
His remarks came shortly after he regained his freedom.
Arrest followed confrontation in Lagos
Peller was arrested on Friday in the Lekki area of Lagos after an encounter with police officers involving a tinted vehicle without a number plate.
Sharing his experience on Snapchat, the content creator said the detention left him physically exhausted.
According to him, it was the first time he had ever spent several days in a police cell.
He also claimed that some inmates recognised him and jokingly called him “001” while he was in custody.
TikToker says experience changed his outlook
Peller further alleged that he went without food and bathing throughout most of his detention.
Reflecting on the incident, he said the experience had made him more careful about his actions going forward.
The social media personality added that his attention is now focused on his upcoming wedding and avoiding situations that could lead to further legal trouble.
Court grants bail
A video that circulated online shortly after his arrest showed Peller accusing police officers of harassment.
He alleged that officers pulled his shirt and pointed a firearm at him before taking him into custody, while maintaining that he had only recently acquired the vehicle involved.
On Tuesday, Peller and his co-defendant, Bello Oladipo, were arraigned before a Lagos Magistrates’ Court on charges bordering on conspiracy, obstruction of police officers and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace.
The court subsequently granted him bail in the sum of ₦500,000, ending his four-day detention while the case continues.
